Stop hunting children!: Report on sexual violence committed against children and adolescents in the armed conflict in Colombia

COALICO urges an agreement to remove children from the conflict

According to monitoring by the NGO coalition COALICO, while hostilities were ongoing in 2013 between FARC-EP, ELN, PDAGs and the Army, at least 136 events were recorded related to the recruitment and use of children in the conflict in 26 of 32 departments. They include 35 civil-military campaigns by public forces; 530 cases of sexual violence against children by armed actors (64 per cent under age 14); 351 children killed, 54 disappeared and two tortured.

The Coalition’s achievements in 12 years of work

Since its founding in October 1999, the Coalition has promoted a strong advocacy strategy at national and international levels in order to achieve the ratification by the Colombian State of international treaties regarding children and armed conflict, compliance with the obligations incumbent by virtue of these treaties, and the adjustments to internal legislation in accordance to international standards.

Territorial Focus

At the present time, Coalico is carrying out work in the departments of Antioquia, Arauca, Bolívar, Cauca, Chocó, Cundinamarca, Meta, Norte de Santander, Putumayo, Sucre, and Valle del Cauca, setting up alliances and relationships with local organizations, with which actions are carried out in the framework of the three work strategies: Strengthening of Local Capacities, Observation and Monitoring, and Political Advocacy.

La Coalición contra la vinculación de niños, niñas y jóvenes al conflicto armado en Colombia fue creada en octubre de 1999. Es un espacio de confluencia y articulación de organizaciones de la sociedad civil, que a través de monitoreo, incidencia política, defensa y promoción de los derechos de los niños, niñas y jóvenes, busca transformar positivamente las situaciones generadas por el conflicto armado colombiano, particularmente aquellas relacionadas con el uso, reclutamiento y vinculación de la niñez a los grupos armados.
